GAME STUDIO QUEST - Create Your Own Video Game at Summer Camp!

Do you dream of creating your own video game? Want to experience what it's like to work in a real game studio? The Game Studio Quest summer camp at our Lauttasaari location offers 10-13 year olds a unique opportunity to dive into the fascinating world of game design!

Studio Information:

  • Location: Lauttasaari site, Itälahdenkatu 22A
  • Daily program: 9AM-3PM
  • Flexible arrival from 8AM and pickup by 5PM at the latest
  • Age group: 10-13 year old future game developers

At the Game Studio, young people will:

  • Design and create a complete, publishable video game
  • Use the user-friendly GDevelop game development platform, which is code-free
  • Learn the basics of game design with a professional approach
  • Experience authentic game studio roles (game designer, graphic artist, level designer, tester...)
  • Develop creative problem-solving, teamwork skills and project management
  • Take refreshing breaks outdoors playing yard games

GDevelop - From Ideas to Games Without Coding! GDevelop is an excellent choice for beginning 10-13 year old game developers. Its strengths include:

  • No programming skills required: Uses a visual event-based system instead of traditional code
  • Low barrier to entry: User-friendly interface where games can be built using drag-and-drop methods
  • Versatile features: Supports 2D games and includes physics engines, animation tools and sound management
  • Free version available to continue game development at home after camp
  • Publishing options: Games can be published online, on mobile devices or as desktop applications

GDevelop is perfectly suited for teaching basic game development concepts such as game mechanics, visual design, and problem-solving without requiring children to first learn a complex programming language. The platform grows with their skills and enables the creation of more complex games as abilities develop. Learn to make games by playing!

The Game Developer's Toolkit Includes:

  • Comprehensive introduction to GDevelop software (no prior experience needed!)
  • Basic skills in game design, creating game mechanics and graphics implementation
  • Understanding of building, testing and publishing games
  • Delicious lunch from Pisara restaurant buffet and healthy snacks
  • Guidance from professional game developers and educators

What to Bring to Studio Day:

  • Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing for breaks
  • Indoor shoes
  • Your own water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • A touch of creativity and enthusiasm (we'll provide the rest!)

At camp, young people learn diverse game-making skills: storytelling, visual design, logical thinking, problem-solving, game mechanics design, project management, teamwork, and giving and receiving feedback. All these are valuable skills for the future, regardless of field!

As the camp culminates, each participant goes home as a game developer with a genuine, finished game in their portfolio. Give your child the opportunity to experience game industry professionalism in a safe and inspiring environment this June.

What one camper's parent says:

I don't think I have enough fingers anymore to count how many camps our child has attended. That alone surely tells how much they've enjoyed them. Special mention for the stories that are always good, interesting, and entertaining. Also, special thanks to the camp instructors! It's always been fun - there has never been anything to complain about!
