Gaming classes are quite trendy. At least based on Google’s search trends. Perhaps the reason for that is that many parents realize how much their kids love gaming and are looking for ways to make that enthusiasm more meaningful. That’s exactly what we do at School of Gaming.
What Should You Look for in a Gaming Class?
In the past there have been several esports training platforms, but most of them have ceased to exist. Perhaps improving one’s technical gaming skills in 1-on-1 training with an expert may not offer enough value to keep kids engaged long term. That suggests they’ve failed to keep children’s enthusiasm alive.
Most parents understand “gaming classes” as sessions about learning to get better a certain game (eg. Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox). But should there be more to it?
At School of Gaming we definitely think so!
More Than Just Gaming Classes
At School of Gaming, we go one step further. We’re not just teaching how to compete, to win or to be better in some game. We are using the games to teach children how to be better human beings. How to think, solve, create, and connect.
Games and gaming are excellent tools to help children gain crucial 21st century skills. Those are the skills that never go out of fashion. Skills like critical thinking, creativity, emotional skills, collaboration and more.
“The Minecraft club is the highlight of my son's week. Every week, my quiet and shy boy transforms into a laughing, loudly chatting child when gets to interact with like-minded friends. The club's content and the educators' expertise have pleasantly surprised me. - Mom, Finland.”
Play Continues Online
Parents are worried about the time their children spend in front of screens. And rightly so. Perhaps there is also a mix of bad conscience for not having enough time to play with them?
The fact is that play time in general is decreasing all around the world. Yes, that means children play less than they used to. At School of Gaming we take this to our heart and have been thinking how to build our service so that it is as useful as playing with friends in the park or nearby forest.
School of Gaming is your safe digital playground. Playing Minecraft, with like-minded friends under supervision of a trained adult, can just be the next best thing!
Turning screen time into quality time
Many parents are looking for options how to find alternatives and better practices for screen time spent on social media scrolling and unsafe online gaming.
Screen time does not necessarily have to be considered negative and passivating. It can be the very opposite! Here is a check-list to consider when figuring out how to turn child’s screen time into quality time:
✅ Led by trained instructors who know how to guide children and teach them skills that matter. Not just game mechanics
✅ Focused on both gaming and growth
✅ Includes learning goals which don’t suck. Using gamified elements, make learning fun and ubiquitous.
✅ Safe gaming community and environment with zero tolerance to bullying and toxic behavior
✅ Encourages playfulness, storytelling and creativity, but also self-reflection and purpose
Why School of Gaming?
We tick all the boxes on the above list. Those are all at the core of what we do. Instead of gaming mechanics, we teach children to think positively, think critically, reflect, solve, communicate and create. At SoG games are tools for inner exploration and self-expression in the gentle, yet firm, guidance of a professional game-educator.
